Westmorland
Fells Welcome You
The Westmorland Fells follow a limestone ridge that stretches from
The Yorkshire Dales toThe Shap Fells encompassing some of the
most beautiful landscape in Cumbria. This website aims to
introduce newcomers to the area and celebrate some of its finest
features. The Orton Valley extends between The Westmorland
Fells, The Howgills and Shap Fells.
SHAPED OVER MILLENIA BY ICE, WATER & PEOPLE
Our region is characterised by attractive rolling
Carboniferous Fell and Dale topography with
exposed limestone scars, screes and karstic
pavement that harbours a uniquely specialised
plant ecology.
In addition to many of the resident and migrant
wildlife species found elsewhere in Cumbria, The
Westmorland Fells have a specialist subarctic
community ecology found only in Limestone
Karst habitat.
